In the spring of 2003, Joy & Chris adopted their first dog - a small border collie female that they named Jadzia Dax, after the character from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.  Soon after taking her home, however, it was readily apparent that those "new home" jitters were much worse than they originally thought - they were signs of abuse.  With lots of love and care, Jadzia quickly bonded to Joy despite being intended for Chris.  With this newfound energetic companion, it was time to find an outlet for her energy, and Joy took her to try flyball at the Gig Harbor demo in September of 2003.  One day was all it took for Jadzia to learn and love the game, although it took her nearly six months to get over her fear of the flyball box. 

She debuted at the Kings March Madness tourney in 2004, running as height dog for 14" jumps and earning her first four titles that weekend.  With the support of her teammates and a family who loves to travel, Jadzia has attended nearly every tournament the club has gone to since her debut.  She was ranked 198 among point-scoring dogs in NAFA for 2005, ranked again at 241 for 2008, and has been the first dog in JCJ to earn the Flyball Master Champion, ONYX, Flyball Grand Champion, and Flyball grand Champion 40k point awards.  Jadzia is a steady dog who can run in any position and is happy to run as much or as little as is needed.

Thanks to flyball and the other members of the club, Jadzia is a happy and confident little border collie today.  She's gone from being afraid of all men to being happy to meet people, and from being silent from fear to barking her excitement before a race.  She's come a long way, and although she still has her border collie idiosyncracies (like chasing beeping cell phones), she's a fantastic flyball dog and wonderful pet.

Outside of flyball, Jadzia competes in regional Dock Dogs events, practices herding sheep at Fido's Farm, and plays frisbee, agility, and obedience for fun.  She has even appeared in the Darwin's Dog Food calendar as Miss November 2007.  Jadzia lives in Bothell with her humans, her brother Curzon, her sisters Phoebe and Ezri, and two black cats.
